- Kiris was born into a very poor family on the border, in a village that was unclaimed by either Arilea or Viriseth and supported by neither. He lived in a small house with wooden floors that weren't even slightly kept up, and slept on the floor there, often awakening with splinters. Because neither land claimed responsibility for their territory, the militia from nearby towns used to treat the people there as free entertainment. Though not many of them had actively cruel intentions, none of them realized that the reason the people there had a reputation for being 'easy' and giving them whatever they wanted was that they feared the lack of legal protection would get them killed - or worse - if they refused.
- He was the eldest of four siblings by about six minutes, being one of twins. His mother died when he was three years old, leaving his father with two three year olds, a two year old boy and a newborn girl. Though he had difficulty coping with it, he did his best and their life was at least pleasant as family matters go. However, when Kiris was just nine, his father developed the first signs of a sickness that would plague him for several years before finally claiming his life. Feeling responsible for his younger siblings and worried about his father, Kiris turned to crime to support them and pay for treatment to ease his condition.
- By the time he was fourteen, he was already connected with several criminals who had been able to teach him valuable lessons. One of them decided to introduce him to one of the bandit clans, Howling Storm. He ran with them for a few years before deciding to branch off on his own due to... "creative differences" with the leader. He took several of the clan with him when he left. Though most people scorned at the idea of him being successful, they eventually rose to be the single most wanted bandit clan in the country.
- His greatest heist, in his view, was stealing the Fangs of Alsfyr from the Capital's immensely secure museum. It took months to plan, was executed in a single night, and got him listed as one of the country's most wanted people almost immediately. However, the consequence was that he would spend a lot of the future looking over his shoulder due to the enmity of the Daughters of the Storm.
- Because of the impact of the Fangs on his body and mind, he was briefly incapacitated for a while.
- When he and some of his crew found Prince Taiah alone and abandoned by his guards, he took the opportunity to humiliate him by threatening him into sex, later resulting in the birth of his son, Sarasvana. Though he's never met him in person, he kept in contact with him through letters smuggled into the palace, often with small gifts attached.
- One of his favourite crew members is a former spoiled rich girl named Risla Eiri, who hired him to kidnap her away from her family and teach her basic life survival skills in order to escape a life of being a trophy wife. Kiris found he liked her a lot. He nicknamed her Ris, after a rare flower that secretes poison onto its' petals.
Personality
- His general demeanour is actually fairly calm and relaxed, but there's always an undercurrent of being ready to move at any time. His reaction speed is pretty high as a result - he is never entirely relaxed unless he's in bed, and if he's asleep in a room with strangers, he'll never reach that level even so.
- Despite being pleasant in general, he is the leader of a crime syndicate. He won't bat an eyelid at committing crimes, no matter how horrifying. At most he might express regret at the target if it's unavoidable. He is careful with his targets whenever they're optional, generally preferring to avoid committing crimes against the poor and weak unless it's essential.
- Though he's no Robin Hood, he's fairly generous if he thinks someone needs it. He also sees it as pragmatism as well as kindness; getting people on his side means that he has a possible ally to rely on to shelter him if he needs to escape something. Especially since it's known he's particularly generous to those who help him - and actually help, not just provide aid he doesn't need to try to get him indebted to them or condescend to him.
- He gets tense whenever a storm comes. He doesn't fear storms, nor any part of them, but the Daughters of the Storm are not called that to sound fancy and until a storm has passed, he cannot be sure that he won't be attacked.
- Kiris is fairly giving when it comes to his own surroundings. If someone wants to do something to his room that he doesn't care for but doesn't outright dislike, he'll let them. For example, he has banners in his room that he feels no desire to display, but he keeps them up in case the person who excitedly suggested them visits his room and feels hurt by their being taken down.
- He's fond of luxury and doesn't ever want to go back to not having it.
- Though he can be fairly cocky, he's generally not condescending unless he's angry. When he's angry, he can get fairly derisive and cutting.
- If he doesn't like you, he tends to be very much cruel, and he has a nasty streak that he only exercises when someone needs punishing. If you hurt his people, his interests, or his family, you're going to suffer.
- He's generally very distrustful of others, but not in a fearful way; it's a simple view that "anyone I meet could be either used against me or be against me". As a result, he keeps personal information close to his heart until he knows people well, and even once he knows them he will often keep things he views as dangerous to himself.
- Kiris is someone who loves his own people deeply. Though he's not foolish or reckless enough to cause himself harm unnecessarily, he would bleed himself near-dry to help one of those beneath him if it came to that.
- He cultivates a reputation of being unstoppable. Only his own people are allowed to see him vulnerable and even then he'll usually try to conceal it until he's alone. He tends to treat his own wounds whenever possible. Because of this he has the unfortunate habit of behaving as if nothing is wrong, and performing tasks which he isn't in any good shape to do.
- Asking for help is something that really hurts his pride. He doesn't like needing help at all, and prefers having people relying on him.
- He tends towards pragmatism over anything else. Though he doesn't look down on idealists, he pities them somewhat, since he thinks they've chosen a difficult way to live.
- Despite this tendency, he's actually very easily intrigued by challenges and likes to put his skills to work to do things that most people consider flashy, overly dramatic and unnecessary. He'd make a good phantom thief. He will easily be dissuaded from his pragmatism if he thinks something will be exciting enough.
